Greetings from all of us at ASCS.
We are very excited to let you in on some changes within the Adoption Support Centre of Saskatchewan. It’s been an eventful spring, summer and fall. It all started with funding approval from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Social Services (MSS) which created the opportunity for us to do several things.
We were able to assume additional space right next to our existing office when the adjoining wall was removed. The expanded boardroom provides us with the space to hold the PRIDE review sessions in conjunction with MSS. We have exciting plans now that we have the space and additional labour hours to work with. In addition to thanking the Ministry of Social Services for the funding, I would like to thank Cheryl and Henry Kloppenburg, the lawyers who previously occupied that space, for their generous donation of desks, office equipment and supplies. They will be put to good use. We’re still getting settled, but it’s all taking shape.
Time for a change
Alongside the expansion, the board and staff decided the time was right for a rebranding project. With the assistance of Arcana Creative, this project resulted in a new look and feel for our organization. To kick off Adoption Awareness Month we had a logo launch at our office on Nov. 1. We hope you like the logo as much as we do.
Molly and her staff at Arcana Creative put in a lot of time and energy into its development. They were very patient as we provided feedback throughout the process. I would like to acknowledge and thank all those who attended our logo launch, with a special thank you to our speakers: Elder Nora Cummings, the Honorable Minister of Social Services Paul Merriman and Candy Hamre Wyka. To top it off, Molly and her staff designed and painted a beautiful mural on our wall. In the words of one of our YSO youth: “That mural makes this a safe and happy place.” A huge thank you to Molly, Lesia and Will.
That’s not all.
Arcana Creative is working with us in the development of a new website. It will be live in the next few weeks. I encourage you to check it out toward the end of November.
And yes, there’s more. We are also working with Torrey and Dean at Objectified Software to develop a database system which will allow us to enter the digital age in our record keeping. We have long outgrown the system we have been using. This one will allow us to speedily access digital files rather than searching through paper. We are very excited to see it up and running by the new year.
I would like to acknowledge Leah, Sam, Rossita and Geanne for their hard work and commitment to making all of these projects come to life. I also acknowledge the board for their support and encouragement as we undertook these initiatives.
If you are in the area, I encourage you to drop by the office, say hello and check out the Carol Bothwell Library.
Till next time, take care.
